9/14/2009 - Fiesta Movement Visits Red Cross, Develops YouTube Video on Getting Prepared for an Earthquake

The American Red Cross Bay Area Chapter got a visit from two agents of the Ford Fiesta Movement on the Friday before Labor Day. Armed with two video cameras and an interest in learning how to get themselves prepared for disaster, Thomas K and Whit S met with Madelyn Mackie, manager of preparedness education, to find out what to do before, during and after an earthquake. Over the next week, the two edited and posted a video about earthquake preparedness on YouTube.

The American Red Cross Bay Area Chapter today announced the recipients of its San Francisco County Heroes Awards, all of whom will be honored at the San Francisco Heroes Breakfast on Thursday, September 24 at 8:30 a.m. at the Marine’s Memorial Club and Hotel in San Francisco.

8/21/2009 - Former Firefighter Serves with Red Cross in India, Sri Lanka and Iran

“Being able to serve is a privilege,” says Jim Stephenson, a retired Southern Marin Fire District firefighter, of his involvement with the American Red Cross, which began back in 1991. Stephenson first participated as a Red Cross volunteer in Sacramento while on a disaster plan­ning project at the local fire department. He began as a volunteer caseworker, and eventually worked his way up to director of disaster services for the Sacramento chapter.

6/10/2019 - American Red Cross Bay Area Chapter and Partners Celebrate One Million People Trained in Disaster Preparedness
The American Red Cross Bay Area Chapter today announced it has successfully trained one million people to be better prepared for disaster through the collective efforts of Pacific Gas and Electric Company, Catholic Healthcare West and hundreds of community partners and thousands of volunteers. This milestone marks the completion of the four-year Prepare Bay Area campaign that sought to ensure one million residents – or nearly one in every four people in the region – have the skills and knowledge they need to be ready for a disaster, such as a major earthquake or a home fire.

6/6/2019 - American Red Cross Bay Area Assists Residents Affected by San Francisco Power Outage
The American Red Cross Bay Area is providing assistance to Tenderloin district residents left without power after yesterday's explosion and fire in a PG&E underground vault. The Red Cross has been on the scene since Friday evening, providing an estimated 130 residents at 990 Polk - many of whom are elderly or disabled - with flashlights, blankets, food and assistance with special needs.

5/15/2009 - First Aid Station Volunteers Care for Community at Festivals, Races
Next time you’re at a community festival or race, take a look around and you’re likely to see the volunteers of the American Red Cross Bay Area Chapter on-site providing free first aid services. From handing out bandages to runners with painful blisters to providing a haven from the heat to those affected by the sun or dehydration, Red Cross volunteers help care for the community through the first aid stations program. Each year, the chapter staffs stations at more than 20 events throughout the Bay Area, such as the ING Bay to Breakers race taking place in San Francisco on Sunday, May 17.

The Bay Area caught spring fever early this year with mini-heat waves bringing 90-degree weather in late April. As residents rush outside to enjoy the sunshine, the American Red Cross Bay Area Chapter is working hard to make sure that people stay safe and healthy this summer. Along with ongoing first aid, CPR and aquatics safety courses, this year the Red Cross is also hosting its first annual Healthy Families Fair in Oakland on Saturday, June 6.

The American Red Cross Bay Area announced today the recipients of its Marin County Heroes Awards bringing a sense of pride and camaraderie to the Marin community. The annual Red Cross Heroes Awards program celebrates everyday heroes, recognizing those individuals and organizations that make a difference in their community through acts of extraordinary courage and kindness. Among this year’s heroes are a gentleman who saved the life of his neighbor’s infant son and a homeless man who stood up for his community by advocating as a representative for the homeless on various county committees.

4/15/2009 - Red Cross Bay Area Volunteer Deploys to North Dakota, Provides Mass Care to Vulnerable Residents
Marin County volunteer John Woodbridge was sent on his first mass care deployment to help the people affected by North Dakota floods last month. Woodbridge departed on March 25 and was immediately put to work setting up shelters, serving up hot meals and helping people evacuate their homes to safety.

3/23/2009 - Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association and American Red Cross Bay Area Chapter Host Event About Sichuan Earthquake

The Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association and the American Red Cross Bay Area will host a Roundtable on the 2008 China Earthquake Recovery Efforts. Representatives from the Red Cross Society of China will provide an update on recovery efforts following the Sichuan Earthquake in May 2008 and will share how the more than $11 million donated from businesses and individuals in the Bay Area have been used to aid rebuilding efforts.

3/18/2009 - AMERICAN RED CROSS TRAINS MORE THAN 2,500 PEOPLE IN BAY AREA AT ANNUAL CPR SATURDAY EVENT
The American Red Cross amped up its ongoing efforts to better prepare the community in hosting its 28th annual CPR Saturday training event on Saturday, March 14. The Red Cross certified more than 2,500 people in CPR in eight Bay Area counties, making CPR Saturday one of the region’s largest free CPR training events.

The American Red Cross Bay Area lit up the night during its annual Paint the Town Red Gala on Saturday, February 28 at San Francisco City Hall. The spectacular evening enchanted the Bay Area philanthropic and corporate community, bringing together more than 400 guests in a show of support for Red Cross disaster readiness and relief efforts in the Bay Area.
