Each of the nearly 2,000 volunteers working with the American Red Cross Bay Area Chapter has a distinct personality, varied work experiences and a story to tell. To find out where you fit in please review our volunteer opportunities listed below. Once you have chosen an area of interest and attended our free volunteer orientation, a member of our volunteer resources team will conduct an interview with you to discuss all your options and help you find a position and training schedule that works for you.
Disaster Preparedness Instructor
Help your friends and neighbors get ready. You will teach people how to build a disaster kit and where the safest place in your home is during an earthquake. We are always looking for volunteers that have a passion for teaching others and a desire to help their community be prepared. Learn More 
Disaster Responders
Disaster relief volunteers are on the frontline providing food, shelter and comfort to those who just lost their home due to a fire or other disaster. Whether you are a licensed mental health professional or nurse or you just want to lend a helping hand, join our team of volunteers that provide comfort in times of disasters day or night. Many of our disaster responder positions require training as well as nighttime and weekend on-call availability. Opportunities for disaster responder positions are available locally and nationally. Client Caseworkers
Help identify the immediate disaster-caused needs of individuals and families impacted by disasters and assist them with their road to recovery. Meet with them to help provide emergency food, clothing and housing; provide financial, counseling, and health-related services and assistance and reunification or welfare information.
Health & Safety Instructors
Do you have certification for American Red Cross health and safety courses? If so, you can become a volunteer instructor. This volunteer opportunity offers you the chance to use your teaching and public speaking skills to promote essential safety initiatives to small groups at community classes and special events throughout the year. First Aid Station Caregiver
Volunteers with medical training help staff first aid stations throughout the Bay Area during special events, such as concerts, festivals, sporting events, etc. This position requires current American Red Cross Emergency Response certification or an EMT, RN, LVN or MD license. The Red Cross will provide additional training for certification in CPR for the Professional Rescuer or AED essentials. Time commitment ususally varies depending on frequency and duration of events.
The American Red Cross Bay Area youth programs provides youth and young adults with opportunities to learn and serve, while contributing to our mission of building a stronger, more resilient community. Young people up to age 24 make up 30 percent of all Red Cross volunteers. Learn More  
Administrative Support
If you like working with people, then volunteer to help with our administrative needs. Some of the opportunities in this area include customer service, call center support, technology support/data entry, serving as receptionists/greeters at our facilities and filing.
Marketing and Development
Do you have a background or strong interest in media, marketing or fundraising? If so, consider assisting marketing and development teams in promoting Red Cross services. We can be flexible with your schedule and will work to use you as often or as little as you want to work. Potential marketing opportunities include media relations, photography, graphic design, writing and online initiatives. Development opportunities include grantwriting, event coordination, project management and donor acknowledgment activities.
