SAN FRANCISCO – November 4, 2019 – The American Red Cross Bay Area Chapter opened an evacuation center today for the residents displaced by an apartment fire at 240 Linden Avenue in Redwood City. The shelter is located at the Fair Oaks Community Center at 2600 Middlefield Road in Redwood City. The Red Cross will be providing food, shelter and crisis counseling services for those affected by this morning’s fire. The shelter will remain open until residents are able to return to their homes or alternative housing is secured.

Red Cross volunteers have been on-site since shortly after the fire started, and opened the temporary shelter early this morning. Approximately 40 residents checked into the Red Cross evacuation center.

At this time, it is unclear whether or not these residents will be able to return to their homes in the near future. The Red Cross will continue to work with any residents who are displaced permanently, providing them with emergency housing, assistance with replacing lost items and emotional support through their recovery from the fire.

Any residents affected by the fire may contact 1-888-4-HELP-BAY (1-888-443-5722) for assistance.

All Red Cross disaster assistance is free, made possible by the donations of time and money by people in the Bay Area. If you are interested in helping residents affected by home fires and other local emergencies, please call 1-888-4-HELP-BAY (1-888-443-5722) or visit www.redcrossbayarea.org.
