On March 6, the Red Cross teamed up with the Southern Baptist Convention to train several disaster volunteers in mass feeding in Oakland. The training was meant to allow volunteers to gain a better understanding of how the Red Cross partnership with the Baptist community works when it comes to disaster assignments.
The Southern Baptists set up a mock kitchen while the Red Cross Emergency Response vehicle was loaded as if it were going on a food run. The ERV then made its rounds throughout the community to simulate the path it would take in the event of a mass food distribution.
This training and partnership with the Southern Baptists allowed our Red Cross disaster volunteers to gain additional training and add to their wealth of knowledge on how to prepare for and respond to disasters.
