Red Cross Supports Series of Marin H1N1 Vaccination Clinics

American Red Cross Bay Area Chapter volunteers provided critical support for the four Marin County public health H1N1 vaccination clinics held in November and December. The clinics were held in San Rafael, Marin City, Point Reyes Station and Novato to those eligible in the high-risk categories. In total, more than 5,000 vaccinations were provided.
Red Cross volunteers, many of whom worked at several of the clinics, were in charge of front-of-line shot room access, line flow control, offering canteen services to the public waiting in line as well as all volunteer staff, nurses, security and logistics personnel. In addition, cross-county support volunteers were on the scene to assist with translation, screening, mental health and staffing the first aid station at each clinic. The Marin Medical Reserve Corps – many of whom are also Red Cross volunteers – was instrumental in making the clinics a tremendous success.
Several of our new volunteers attained their first operational experience at each clinic and were thrilled to hear so many personal expressions of genuine thanks from the public for the services we provided before, during and after the dreaded needle in the arm!
