The annual Alameda County Heroes Breakfast was held on October 8 at the Hilton Oakland Airport Hotel. More than 110 people including volunteers, community dignitaries, honorees and Red Cross staff attended the event. The breakfast that was emceed by KTVU-TV news anchor Heather Holmes.
Those honored at the event included Jay Jamali who saved the life of a San Jose police officer by thwarting the efforts of a convicted felon. Eunice Shaw and Christopher Wagner of Allen Baptist Church were also honored for their work in extending a hand to their disadvantaged community members, and training fellow church members to be prepared for disaster, including making their church equipped to be a disaster shelter.
Other notable moments at the breakfast included an inspiring keynote speech given by Chief Gerald Simon of the Oakland Fire Department and the presentation of a congressional proclamation to Michael Jang for 50 years of volunteer service to the American Red Cross Bay Area Chapter.
The event was all around a success, with the help of sponsors Kaiser Permanente, PG&E, and Michael Jang, and the support of our Alameda County Leadership Council and volunteers.
