The tournament, held at Lansdowne Country Club in Lansdowne, Va., broke the previous year’s record of $830,000 for the one day event.

The money raised will be used by the Red Cross in fulfilling its mission to provide disaster relief and to help people prevent, prepare for and respond to life’s emergencies. Since its inception four years ago, the tournament has raised nearly $3 million for the Red Cross thanks to generous sponsors. The 2006 Platinum sponsors include ACS, BearingPoint, Deloitte & Touche, Ditech, EDS, Elutions, Gemalto, Motorola, RIM and Samsung.

To recognize Sprint for its continued commitment to the Red Cross, interim President and CEO Jack McGuire presented Gary Forsee, CEO, and Tim Donahue, Chairman of Sprint, with the American Red Cross Circle of Humanitarians award. The award honors companies and individuals whose generous contributions provide lifesaving support through Red Cross programs.

In addition to the Sprint Leadership Invitational Charity Event, Sprint has a long history of supporting Red Cross disaster services. They made significant financial donations to assist the relief operations for the four consecutive hurricanes that struck Florida in 2004, the Indian Ocean tsunami that hit South Asia and Africa in December 2004 and last year’s devastating hurricanes—Katrina, Rita and Wilma—in the Gulf Coast region.

Sprint also has supported relief efforts by providing pre-paid phone cards to disaster survivors and mobile phones to Red Cross workers in the disaster-affected areas.
