When music legend and humanitarian Quincy Jones saw the devastation and destruction that resulted from the earthquake in China and the cyclone in Myanmar he, like millions of others, was troubled by the images of immense suffering. Jones wanted to help, and wanted to motivate others to get involved with the effort. He invited the Red Cross into his home and his heart as he recorded four public service announcements aimed at helping people in these affected areas and for international disasters to come.

"This is a critical time for the survivors of the earthquake in China and cyclone in Myanmar, which devastated lives, homes and dreams," said Jones. "By contributing to the American Red Cross, people can help their neighbors around the world get back on their feet and give them greater hope for the future."

The 7.9 magnitude earthquake that jolted the Sichuan province of China left more than 5 million people homeless and destroyed many more lives. The area has experienced several aftershocks which has resulted in the destruction of additional property, hampered relief efforts and increased survivors' trauma. Recently, the American Red Cross made an initial contribution of US $10 million to help the relief effort in China.

The American Red Cross is also helping survivors in Myanmar by providing financial assistance and delivering relief supplies – such as tarps, insecticide-treated bed nets, and other emergency items. As of May 28, seven relief flights carrying American Red Cross supplies had arrived in country.

American Red Cross staff remains in contact with the Red Cross Society of China, the Myanmar Red Cross and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies to coordinate assistance. The American Red Cross is committed to helping survivors in China and Myanmar, but needs your assistance in order to do so. The American Red Cross is grateful for the support of compassionate individuals who make a difference in the lives of people at home and around the world.

You can help the victims of countless crises around the world each year, crises like the Myanmar Cyclone and China Earthquake, by making a financial gift to the American Red Cross International Response Fund, which will provide immediate relief and long-term support through supplies, technical assistance and other support to help those in need. The American Red Cross honors donor intent. If you wish to designate your donation to a specific disaster please do so at the time of your donation by either contacting 1-800-HELP NOW or 1-800-257-7575 (Spanish), or mailing your donation with the designation to the American Red Cross, P.O.
